CPI gets $17M parts order
Edgewood-based CPI Aerostructures Inc. says it has a new $17 million order from Boeing for A-10 aircraft assemblies for the A-10 Thunderbolt—a twin-engine combat plane known as the Warthog.
The production order is part of Boeing’s wing replacement program for the A-10.
More than 350 of the A-10 aircraft are in service with the US Air Force, Air Combat Command, the U.S. Air Force Reserve and the Air National Guard.
The A-10 Thunderbolt is now in use in Iraq and Afghanistan where it “provides close-air support of ground forces and employs a wide variety of conventional munitions, including general purpose bombs,” Boeing says. The single-seat plane “can be used against all ground targets, including tanks and other armored vehicles.”
