A longtime Newsday Media Group executive will retire at the end of next month, publisher Debby Krenek announced.

Frank Cutrone, a Newsday employee for more than 43 years, will step down as chief of operations. He joined the company at age 18 as a part-time collator and then became a setup mechanic, an electrician, and after going back to school rose through the executive ranks.

Cutrone’s father, Alex, also worked in the press room and the younger Cutrone met his wife, Donna, at the newspaper.

Krenek praised Cutrone’s dedication to Newsday, saying, “He understands the complexities of our business and has helped us grow in new areas while solving challenges, and has been an integral part of our continuing business transition.”
