A Detroit business publication reports that the matriarch of the Little Caears pizza chain could be a source of $1 billion in financing for the Shinnecock tribe’s casino-building plans.

Newsday has previously reported the connection between the Ilitch family’s pizza fortune and the Shinnecock casino plans. The report in Crain’s Detroit Business adds a dollar figure to the potential partnership.

“Marian Ilitch, sole owner of Detroit's MotorCity Casino and matriarch of the family whose fortune is built on the Little Caesars Enterprises Inc. pizza chain, has a casino development deal with the Southampton, N.Y.-based Shinnecock Indian Nation,” Crain’s Business Detroit reports.

“Ms. Ilitch has been working with the tribe since 2003 on plans to build and operate a casino in the Hamptons. Casinos could also be built elsewhere on the island to serve a bigger population base,” the report says.
