Two days after a national spotlight shone on Hofstra University for the second presidential campaign debate between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney, another prominent politician is expected on Long Island.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney will speak at the Long Island Association's annual fall luncheon at noon Thursday. The talk will be a question-and-answer event, with LIA president Kevin Law interviewing Cheney.

The business organization's speaker luncheon, which is held as a yearly fundraiser among its members, will take place at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

Law told Newsday in August that he expects Cheney to discuss a variety of issues, such as a foreign policy, the war on terror, the economy and the imminent presidential election.

The LIA has two speaker events a year featuring prominent national figures. Past guests have included former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
