Drug company asks for tax breaks to expand in Nassau

A local drugmaker is asking Nassau County for tax breaks to expand.
PL Developments plans to invest $8.1 million in renovations to a factory at 200 Hicks St. in Westbury, and to purchase and equip a factory at 609-2 Cantiague Rock Road in Hicksville, according to Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano.
The manufacturer of generic drugs employs 569 people and has promised to hire an additional 150 if it receives the tax breaks.
The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency is expected Thursday night to approve exemptions from the sales tax and mortgage recording tax. It also will consider a proposal to freeze property taxes for 11 years and then raise them 2 percent in each of the following nine years.
PL Developments had been courted by Florida, according to Empire State Development Corp., which granted the company $2.7 million in state tax credits in August 2012.
The company also has two other buildings and parking facilities in Nassau.
