CPI Aerostructures Inc., the Edgewood defense contractor, will build parts for the new HondaJet, the first commercial aircraft produced by Honda.
The Honda Aircraft Co. contract calls for CPI to produce engine inlet and flap and vane assemblies for the $4.5-million HondaJet advanced light business jet.
CPI Aero has a long-term contract to make the parts. It will deliver the first assemblies to Honda's aircraft assembly operation in Greensboro, N.C., in January 2012, CPI said. The HondaJet is expected to be on the market by mid-2012.
