Car dealers and car owners will be showcasing their electric powered vehicles for the public to learn more about plug-in cars this weekend in Holbrook.

Those who attend the event, which takes place Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sun-Vet Mall on Sunrise Highway, will be allowed to test drive electric vehicles from Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Ford and Honda. Electric vehicles, which have recently surged in popularity due to their lack of emission and low operating cost, are cars whose motors are powered by a battery instead of gas.

Electric vehicle chargers, solar powered panels, and other green energy gadgets will be on display at the showcase. Current electric vehicle owners will also be on site to discuss their experiences with their cars.

The event is part of “National Plug In Day,” and is organized by the Long Island Sierra Club and Greater New York Electric Auto Association.
