Eric Krasnoff, who runs the Port Washington-based filtration company Pall Corp., has resigned as chairman but keeps his jobs as chief executive and president.

The move comes after Krasnoff announced his pending resignation and admitted he had a personal relationship with another top Pall executive.

The company board chose one of its members, Ronald Hoffman, as non-executive chairman. Hoffman, 62, has been a Pall director since 2008. He was CEO of Dover Corp., an industrial manufacturing company, from 2005 to his retirement in 2008, Pall said.

Krasnoff said he will retire in March 2012, or as soon as the board chooses a new CEO.
