Ex-CA exec adds another board to his roster

John Swainson, former head of CA Technologies, has landed a spot on the board of directors of the Irvine, Calif.-based chip maker Broadcom Inc.

Swainson, 56, ran the Islandia business software maker — then known as CA Inc. — for five years before retiring in January.

Swainson is also on the boards of Visa Inc., Assurant Inc. and Cadence Design Systems Inc.

“John is the rare executive who possesses strong strategic skills and expertise in software and corporate data centers, coupled with extensive engineering, sales and finance experience,” Scott McGregor, Broadcom's chief executive, said in a statement. With Swainson's appointment, Broadcom's board consists of eight directors.
