The disk-based data storage and protection company FalconStor Software Inc., of Melville, has a new distribution deal with Dell Services, FalconStor said Tuesday.

The agreement gives FalconStor a major new channel for sales of its Network Storage Server technology as a stable and secure method of migrating data from older systems to a new cloud-computing configuration, FalconStor said.

“With this technology sharing agreement, FalconStor is helping Dell meet a customer need for efficiently expanding and upgrading legacy storage installations without disrupting operations,” Bernie Wu, vice president of business development for FalconStor, said in a statement.

FalconStor's stock was down 4 cents, to $2.68, in early trading Tuesday, on the low end of its 52-week range of $2.23 -$4.81.

With about 500 employees and a market capitalization of $127 million, FalconStor is working to emerge from a series of setbacks that culminated in the death, by suicide, of its founder ReiJane Huai. Huai left FalconStor in 2010, and killed himself in September, a day before he was to plead guilty in a bribery case, law enforcement sources told Newsday at the time.
