A bill expanding the business incubator at Farmingdale State College has been sent to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to sign into law or veto by April 13.
The legislation, which passed the State Senate and Assembly by wide margins, sets boundaries for the Broad Hollow Bioscience Park at 38.6 acres and paves the way for construction of a third building. It also permits OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc. to expand its research and development operation to a second building.
OSI had decided to leave Long Island in 2009 but that decision was partially reversed in May when the maker of the lung cancer drug Tarceva was purchased by Astellas Pharma of Japan for $4 billion. Astellas has committed to keeping OSI’s research facilities in Farmingdale, though the headquarters still will move from Melville.
Cuomo has until April 13 to sign the bill, from Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemb. Robert Sweeney (D-Lindenhurst), into law or veto it. If he takes no action, the bill becomes law automatically. He received the measure on Friday.
