Farmingdale company in $57M deal

Farmingdale-based Telephonics Corp. has a new contract worth as much as $57.8 million over the next five years, supplying upgraded radar systems for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for mobile surveillance of the southern boundary with Mexico.
The new Telephonics products will be a significant improvement on the 34 mobile surveillance systems the company has already sold to the Border Patrol for Southwest border activities, Donald C. Pastor, president of the company’s electronic systems division, said. (A version of one of the earlier systems is shown at left.)
The U.S. government awarded the company an initial year contract at $12.8 million, with potential renewals for another $45 million over the following four years.
The new systems "will leverage Telephonics' previously deployed and proven surveillance technology which has effectively detected, identified and tracked items of interest along the U.S./Mexican Border," the company said.
Pastor said, “We look forward to supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection by enhancing the agents' ability to perform their vital mission."
