Farmingdale surgery toolmaker expands overseas sales

Misonix Inc., the Farmingdale ultrasonic surgery toolmaker, has new overseas agreements to distribute its products in Algeria and in Thailand, the company said.
Misonix tools are used for neurosurgery; and cosmetic, spinal and laparoscopic surgery.
The company's shares closed at $1.90 Tuesday on the Nasdaq, up $0.02.
The Algerian agreement will be for a two-year period giving distribution rights to Sarl Excellence Sante, of Algiers, for the SonaStar Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator and the BoneScalpel Ultrasonic Bone Cutter. Initial product training is complete and open market sales are underway, Misonix said.
The Thailand agreement is for three years, giving exclusive BoneScalpel distribution rights to JPL Medical Co. Ltd. of Bangkok, which has already completed its product training.
JPL is known as an aggressive marketer of state-of-the-art medical devices, having successfully launched multiple new, high tech products into Thailand , including capital equipment based surgical systems, Misonix said.
With 77 employees, Misonix has a market capitalization of $13.3 million. It lost $2.42 million on revenue of $14.44 in the past 12 months; during that time its share price dropped 21.8 percent.
