FDA: Hodo tofu recall impacts more than 10,000 cases in NY, nationwide

A fried tofu specialty distributed on Long Island is part of a nationwide recall involving more than 10,000 cases of the product, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA said the tofu, produced by Oakland, California-based Hodo Inc., may have been contaminated by ink.

The recall is for 8-ounce packages of Hodo’s Chili Crisp Lightly Fried Tofu and involves 10,084 cases, each with six units per case, and an additional 486 cases, each with 30 units per case, the FDA recall confirmed.

The recall involves a host of lots with best-use dates running into November.

The Hodo website said it sells food items to a number of metro-area markets, including Foodtown, Whole Foods and Wild by Nature.

The FDA has not directly commented on the recall, which it lists as "firm-initiated" and voluntary.

The recall notice said the tofu was distributed to sellers in 29 states, including New York.

Lot numbers for the recalled products include: 260114, 260114A, 260122, 260128, 260205, 260213, 260213A, 260219, 260219A, 260220, 260226, 260305, 260312, 260319, 260326, 260402, 260423, 260521, 260611, 260625 and 260709.
