The Obama administration has proposed a board that would fast track the sale of “excess” federal properties, including several buildings at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and two national parks on Long Island.
Federal officials plan to outline the proposal for the board, an idea they estimate would save $15 billion in three years.
On its list of 14,000 unused or underused buildings are a 11,563-square-foot laboratory at the lab, a 5,720 family building at the Fire Island National Seashore and a recreational building at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge in Shirley.
