John Buran, chief executive of Flushing Financial Corp., the Lake Success company that owns Flushing Savings Bank, has been elected chairman of the New York Bankers Association, the industry's state lobbying group.
Buran will serve as chairman for a year.
"It is our responsibility to help ensure that our industry remains a strong force for job creation and economic growth throughout the state," Buran said in a statement.
The association's president, Michael Smith, said Buran's nearly three decades in the banking industry will benefit the association.
