Match Eyewear Llc, a Mineola maker of designer glasses, has a new celebrity licensing and promotion contract with a former "American Idol" competitor, Danny Gokey.

Gokey launched his effort with Match Eyewear this weekend by participating in the International Vision Expo, at Javits Center, in Manhattan.

The company, describing him as a "country/pop artist and philanthropist," said he will market a line of prescription eyewear with an edge. He's starting out with 12 styles for men 18 to 35, to be in stores this month.

Ethan Goodman, president of Match Eyewear, said, "It has been fun developing this collection with Danny and it's refreshing to work with an artist with so much passion for eyewear."

Gokey's goal is "delivering trendsetting designs influenced by Danny's sense of style and personal brand of music," Goodman said.

Gokey finished third in the eighth season of "American Idol" in 2009.
