Accountant Lawrence Waldman was elected Thursday chairman of the board of directors at the Long Island Association, the region's largest business group.

Waldman, a senior adviser to EisnerAmper LLC accountants, succeeds Kirk Kordeleski, who resigned in October because of ill health. Kordeleski also stepped down as chief executive of Bethpage Federal Credit Union at the time.

An LIA spokesman said Thursday that Waldman will serve out the balance of Kordeleski's three-year term.

LIA president Kevin Law noted that Waldman has served on the group's board for more than two decades, spending the last 10 years as treasurer.

Waldman vowed Thursday to work "to grow our region and support economic development."

He led the Long Island Power Authority in 2012-13.

Elections for other LIA officers will be held at the group's March 18 annual membership meeting.
