Oceanside Institutional Industries Inc. is considering laying off 105 workers and possibly closing its Freeport plant, according to a state filing.
The Oceanside-based commercial laundry service company did not return several calls for comment but stated in the filing that its reason for the potential cuts is "economic." The job cuts are expected to begin May 3, according to the Feb. 6 filing required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN.
Companies with 50 or more employees are required to file a WARN notice 90 days before a mass layoff or closing. In some cases, plans to lay off or close a facility could change, but companies face fines and the payment of back wages and benefits to workers if they don't provide employees the mandatory time to prepare.
Oceanside Institutional Industries provides services to hospitals and nursing homes as well as restaurants, labs and supermarkets, according to the company's website. It also says it has more than 400 workers and four plants.
