Frequency Electronics, a technology company that designs and manufactures devices to help in the navigation of satellites, aircraft and ships, announced Monday it had received new contracts totaling up to $10 million from the U.S. government.

The contracts are for providing precision timing devices and low-phase-noise frequency sources for government satellite communications systems. Most of the work on the contracts will be done within the next year and a half, according to a news release from the company.

Alan Miller, the CFO of Frequency Electronics, said the new contracts will continue the steady stream of business the company had been doing. Frequency Electronics reported revenue of $64 million last year.

Frequency Electronics is located in Mitchel Field and has been in operation since 1962. It was previously existed as a defense contractor before changing its operations to specialize in communication systems.
