The Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce has partnered with a local charity to host a fundraiser on Monday evening in honor of its late chairman Larry Kushnick.
The Chamber and the Melville-based Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation are holding the event to benefit a college fund for Kushnick’s son, Jordan Kushnick. The Leadership Huntington Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to leadership development in the community, also will receive 25 percent of the proceeds.
Kushnick, an attorney, was known as the “glue” of the Huntington area business community, bringing together a wide range of local merchants for a common cause, said Robert Bontempi, the chamber’s co-chairman. And Kushnick was heavily involved in local charitable organizations, including Moonjumpers.
He was a founding board member and volunteered his legal services to help launch Moonjumpers, which provides assistance to children, families and war veterans in need.
Kushnick, 51, died June 3.
“Larry was big on giving back and being visible,” Bontempi said.
Kushnick created an inclusive environment at the chamber. He spearheaded the chamber’s Multicultural Business Committee this year, reaching out to businesses in Huntington Station, Bontempi said.
The event is being held at 7 p.m. at Honu, 363 New York Ave., Huntington. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at www.moonjumpers.org.
