The Garden City developer Albanese Organization Inc. has initial approval - though no final deal has been signed - from the New Rochelle city council for a proposed "transit-oriented development" in the Westchester municipality’s downtown area.

The city council at its Tuesday meeting voted to approve the Albanese bid for a mixed residential and business zone, the company said Wednesday morning.

The central site to be developed is a 4.5 acre parking lot, and the project would also extend to nearby downtown areas, according to a report in the Journal News, of Westchester County.

“The potential benefits are many, including the enhancement of the physical fabric and appearance of our downtown,” New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson said, according to the report.
