Generic OK for Amityville company

Amityville-based Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co. Inc. has gotten final approval from the Food and Drug Administration for its generic version of an eye-care solution.

The approval for levofloxacin ophthalmic solution, a generic for Vistakon’s Quixin solution (at left), is prescribed for bacterial conjunctivitis.

Hi-Tech will start selling the generic by next month.

The company has 15 other products awaiting FDA approval, in markets with overall brand and generic sales of more than $1 billion.

The company also has 20 products in active development in markets with overall $2 billion in sales, including sterile ophthalmic products, oral solutions and suspensions and nasal sprays.
