Get ready for the unconference

Unconference? No keynote speaker? No official panelists? Lunch -- maybe?
What’s a traditional professional, used to certainty on all of the above at business events, to think of the upcoming SocialMediaCamp Long Island, a free “unconference” to be held May 1 at Hofstra?
Not to worry, says Jeff Namnum, small business marketing consultant, willing to be called the event’s ringmaster. All this means is that you get to help design the day and experience its “hallway value” where the Twitter-with-training-wheels set can informally tap into the brain power of those further along the social media path.
What attendees want most to get from the day, based on the website’s poll: meet innovators, learn the basics for their businesses, connect with marketing/public relations types. Nothing too threatening there.
Come with questions. The day’s all about building community, said Namnum, who had to dash off to see if a sponsor would be springing for lunch.
