Hofstra University will sponsor a conference aimed at closing the skills gap on Long Island.

The event, Thriving in the 21st Century Workplace, will take place Saturday and explore the skills workers need to make themselves marketable in the evolving employment market. Some skills in demand, conference organizers contend, are risk-taking, creative problem solving and media literacy.

The program's target audience is recent graduates, people in career or life transition, people re-entering the workforce, business owners and future entrepreneurs. The event will feature panels and workshops with experts from the public and private sectors.

The conference, hosted by the university's continuing education division, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ernie Canadeo, chief executive of the EGC Group, a Melville advertising and marketing agency, will deliver the keynote, address, "The Workplace Has Evolved. Have You?"

The cost is $55 and includes a continental breakfast and a buffet lunch. The conference will be in the Plaza Room of the David S. Mack Student Center.
