Globecomm lands multimillion-dollar contract

Hauppauge-based Globecomm has won a multimillion-dollar contract to build a satellite teleport in the United Arab Emirates for a regional telecommunications service provider, the company announced.
The exact value of the deal was not disclosed, but a Globecomm spokesman Friday said it was in the $15 million to $25 million range.
The telecommunications service provider, Du, plans to transfer its broadcast satellite transmission services to the new facility in Dubai from an existing teleport. The new teleport will include more than 50 satellite Earth stations, according to a news release.
Du is a provider of mobile phone service, satellite television, broadband Internet and voice services based in the UAE.
Globecomm provides satellite links and telecommunications services to governments, nongovernmental organizations, ship operators and television content providers, including Showtime Networks Inc.
Private equity firm Wasserstein & Co. acquired the company in December 2013 in a $340-million buyout.
