The grand opening events for the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Levittown have been postponed because of last-minute permit issues, the company said Monday.

Walmart had scheduled a preview of its smaller supermarket format Monday evening with a grand opening for the store slated for Wednesday. But the company announced that the events would be delayed.

“The grand opening of the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Levittown has been delayed due to last-minute permitting issues, which are common," said Bill Wertz, Walmart spokesman. The new grand opening date has not yet been confirmed, he said, but the company hopes to bring its "groceries to local residents within a few days."

The Levittown store will be the Long Island debut of Walmart's Neighborhood Market format, which is about half the size of its regular discount stores. The company has about 250 such stores nationwide.
