To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Sanrio — best known for its Hello Kitty brand — is teaming up with the Great Neck perfume company Demeter Fragrance Library, Sanrio said in a news release.

Sanrio’s new scents will be based on the personalities of Hello Kitty characters, and will become part of the existing lineup of Demeter fragrances, including baby powder, dirt and Jelly Belly blueberry muffin.

Sanrio’s anniversary collection will include Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars.

The Hello Kitty scent will be apple-based because, Sanrio says, “Hello Kitty loves apples. She is as tall as five apples, weighs the same as three apples, and one of her favorite foods is Mama's apple pie. Her signature scent is a combination of red, green and yellow apples.”

The My Melody scent will be based on an almond pound cake scent because “My Melody loves eating almond pound cake with her best friend, a mouse named Flat. Her signature scent is a reminder of her favorite food, a combination of almond and vanilla.”

The Little Twin Stars scent will be citrus-based because, “Ever since the Little Twin Stars arrived on Earth, Kiki and Lala have been spreading happiness to everyone they meet. Their signature scent is a combination of citrus fruits.”

Sanrio will also debut a “signature fragrance... inspired by the scent of a Sanrio store, a combination of Japanese fruit flavored gum and scented erasers. This fragrance will be available exclusively in Sanrio stores, Urban Outfitters and at DemeterFragrance.com.”

As a further celebration of Sanrio’s anniversary, Demeter Fragrances this year will launch additional fragrances including Badtz Maru and Keroppi.
