Clothing retailer Clique and Fabulous Optical are headed to Green Acres Mall, while Mavis Discount Tire is planned for an adjacent shopping center in Valley Stream.
The Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency approved subleases for all three planned tenants Tuesday. The IDA owns the title to the mall and the shopping center, called Green Acres Commons, under a tax-break deal with the properties’ owner.
The Macerich Co., a Santa Monica, California-based real estate investment trust, owns the mall and shopping center.
Mavis Discount Tire plans to open a 10,500-square-foot automotive center on an outparcel along Sunrise Highway, according to a statement from the IDA Tuesday. The automotive center is part of White Plains-based Mavis Tire Supply LLC, which has more than 3,500 owned and franchised locations in the United States and Canada, including 49 on Long Island.
The new automotive center will employ 10 to 12 full-time-equivalent workers, the IDA said.
Clique, a “street” apparel retailer focusing on skateboard, hip-hop and surf culture, will occupy a 4,586-square-foot space inside the mall, the IDA said. The store will have five full-time-equivalent employees.
Clique will be in a space formerly occupied by Kids Foot Locker, which was incorporated into a Foot Locker that relocated and expanded in the mall last year, said Arun Khosla, spokesman for Macerich.
Clique has two stores in New York City and one on Long Island, at Tanger Outlets Deer Park.
Fabulous Optical will occupy a 1,810-square-foot space in Green Acres Mall and employ five full-time workers, the IDA said. The optical store is replacing Cohen's Fashion Optical, whose lease expired, Khosla said.
Fabulous Optical is a Brooklyn-based company that has three shops in New York City.
Mavis, Clique and Fabulous Optical did not respond to Newsday's requests for comment, so it was not immediately clear when the tenants will open at Green Acres.
The mall and shopping center operate under agreements called payments in lieu of taxes, or PILOTs, which the agency approved in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Macerich, which is considered to be leasing the properties, must get the IDA’s approval for the tenants’ subleases until the tax-break deal ends.
