'Green' cleaning at Chipotle

The Chipotle burrito chain has contracted to clean its Long Island (and metro New York City) restaurants with "plant-based, environmentally preferable cleaning supplies and technologies," its cleaning products supplier says.

Chipotle uses ecologically safe soaps, detergents, degreasers, solvents, glass cleaners and disinfectants, said the supplier, EcoLogic Solutions.

The cleansers are readily biodegradable and non-toxic to humans or aquatic life.

"EcoLogic Solutions today announced the successful installation of their full green cleaning program into all 38 New York City and Long Island Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants," said EcoLogic, based at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

"This is the first installation of its kind for a public company or restaurant chain, a change invisible to customers."

EcoLogic says it supplies the same "clean without compromise" products to the Statue of Liberty, the corporate offices of Universal/NBC and the Mandarin Oriental hotels.
