A San Francisco solar power "group purchase" organization will kick off a Long Island initiative beginning today.

The organization, One Block off the Grid (known as 1BOG), gathers  homeowners into buyer groups so they can negotiate discounts for equipment and installation.

1BOG's partner on Long Island is Mercury Solar Systems, which has offices in Kings Park and Garden City. Mercury will provide a 15 percent discount to participating homeowners.
1BOG bills itself as "the nation's largest solar group purchase provider".

Its stated goal is "to make it easy and affordable for Long Island homeowners to go solar."
The Long Island effort has a web page — http://SolarLongIsland.1BOG.org/
