Hain buys gourmet snack maker

The natural-foods company Hain Celestial Group Inc., of Melville, on Tuesday bought a gourmet snack maker.

The acquired company is World Gourmet Marketing L.L.C. , of Wayne, N.J. Its products, sold under the brand name Sensible Portions, are Garden Veggie Straws, Potato Straws, Apple Straws, Miner's Gold, Pita Bites and Multi Grain Crisps.

Irwin D. Simon, the Hain chief executive, said World Gourmet is a good fit due to its “history of developing and marketing innovative products, particularly in the club store channel.”

The Sensible Portions products are made in Lancaster, Penn.

Hain did not say how much it paid for Gourmet Marketing.

Hain's other brands include Celestial Seasonings, Health Valley, WestSoy and Linda McCartney.
