Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co. Inc. of Amityville said Monday that it has taken on marketing of a new line of generic medication intended for treatment of opioid drug dependence.

The medication, buprenorphine HCl, in 2mg and 8mg sublingual tablets, is a generic for Reckitt Benckiser's Subutex tablets. Sales of this generic medication reached $75 million for the 12 months ended in June, Hi-Tech said in a news release.

EthyPharm, Hi-Tech's development and manufacturing partner for generic buprenorphine HCl, already has approval from the Food and Drug Administration, and Hi-Tech will start marketing it right away.

Hi-Tech will receive a percentage of net sales and a share of the profits.
