“Smile, it’s part of your attitude,” called out Chaundra Daniels earlier today, as she worked to pump up students at the opening bell of Hofstra University’s job and internship fair.

“The early birds get the jobs – and you’re the early birds,” yelled out  Daniels, assistant director of employer relations, as coifed and suited students filed in to meet with some 90 employers, ranging from Grant Thornton, LLP and The NPD Group to Sirius XM Radio and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Yesterday students attended a workshop on how to get the most from a job fair, including advice on dress, presentation, and expectations, said Fred Burke, executive director of the school’s career center.

And, yes, he did have to deliver an unhappy answer to one communications major who asked, “Does this mean I have to shave off my Mohawk?”
