Holiday hiring on LI for Toys R Us
Toys R Us stores across Long Island are starting to gear up for the holiday hiring as part of the company's goal of taking on more than 40,000 seasonal workers nationwide.
As of Thursday morning, the company's stores on the Island listed more than 100 open jobs, including four store manager positions, at its locations from Valley Stream to Riverhead. Hiring begins this week and continues through November.
The jobs are for shelf stockers, assemblers, sales, receiving and "asset protection." The company is even looking to hire human resources staff, who in turn will help hire others.
In addition to Valley Stream and Riverhead, the chain has stores in Suffolk County in Lake Grove, Huntington Station, Holbrook, Commack, Bohemia, Bay Shore, Deer Park and Shirley. In Nassau County, there are stores in Massapequa, Massapequa Park, Oceanside, Hicksville, Carle Place and Westbury.
The 40,000 position goal "is in line with previous years, when the company hired between 35,000 and 45,000 seasonal workers," spokeswoman Jennifer Albano said in a news release.
"One of the ways we differentiate ourselves is by employing a toy-trained workforce who can provide gift-givers sound toy-buying recommendations, and our seasonal staff is an important extension of our team," vice president Dan Caspersen said in the news release.
