HomeGoods to add two stores in Nassau

The discount chain HomeGoods plans to open two stores in Nassau, one at the Hempstead Village Commons and the other at the Carmans Plaza Shopping Center in Massapequa, the company said Friday.

It will take over the AJWright clothes stores, closed by the TJX Cos. the Massachusetts-based parent company of both discount  retailers.

Each location has about 25,000 square feet, a TJX spokesman said, and is expected to open in May or when the remodeling is complete.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to expand the HomeGoods footprint in Long Island and offer shoppers in and around Hempstead and Massapequa a unique selection of high-quality items for the home at price points for every budget," Richard Sherr, HomeGoods president, said in a news release.

This will give HomeGoods six stores in Nassau and six in Suffolk. The chain sells home decor and furnishings, including designer brands and exotic finds from around the world.
