How does LI's jobless rate stack up?

Three years after the recession ended, Long Island’s unemployment rate remains high. It rose to 7.8 percent in August from 7.0 percent the year before, the State Labor Department said earlier this week.
A lot of local incorporated areas factor into the jobless statistic, and the rate among them varies significantly. Hempstead Village’s rate was 9.9 percent in August, the highest. The lowest was Rockville Centre’s 6.1 percent.
Comparisons around the state show that Long Island’s rate wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t the worst, either. Bronx County topped the worst list, with a 13.1 percent unemployment rate. Upstate Hamilton County, New York’s least populated county, had the lowest rate, 5.2 percent.
