How LI ranks on unemployment

How do October unemployment rates in Nassau and Suffolk stack up with the rest of the state? None too shabby.
They didn’t have the lowest rate among New York’s 62 counties, state Labor Department data released Thursday show. That distinction went to Tompkins County, home of Cornell University. Its jobless rate was 4.8 percent.
Nassau ranked seventh, with a 5.7 percent rate, and tied with Rockland County. Suffolk come in 12th, with a 6.1 percent jobless rate, as did Genesee County. Dead last on the list was Bronx County, with a 12.2 percent rate.
As reported, Long Island’s overall unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 percent in October, the first time it’s fallen below 6 percent since 2008. The 5.9 percent is the average of the two counties’ rates.
