Internet perfume seller pays $5.7M for Hauppauge building

An Internet perfume seller has bought a vacant industrial building in Hauppauge and will move its warehouse, sales and distribution operations there, the company's real estate agent said in a news release.

FragranceX.com Inc., of Long Island City, bought the 80,000-square-foot building at 5 Plant Ave., Hauppauge, for $5.7 million on April 23, the news release said.

The building, with 18-foot ceilings and six loading docks, was built in 1968. It is on a 5.2-acre parcel in an industrial park north of the Long Island Expressway.
Real estate broker Richard Cohen, president of Ashlind Properties, arranged the purchase. Tom Attivisimo of Greiner Maltz Co. represented the seller.

FragranceX.com was founded six years ago by Ron Yakuel, 32, of Syosset. His website describes its wares as more than “9,500 brands of discount perfume, discount cologne, discount body lotion, and discount after shaves including many discontinued perfumes and discontinued colognes.” He sells directly to consumers and is a wholesaler to high-end retailers, gift shops and dollar stores.

Dukal Corp., a medical supply company, occupied the Hauppauge building before it moved to Ronkonkoma.
