Kohl's store in Melville to close
Kohl’s Corp., the department store chain, said Friday it would close its Melville location in April and that employees are being offered positions at other stores.
In an e-mail, spokeswoman Jen Johnson at corporate headquarters in Menomonee Falls, Wisc., didn’t give a reason for the closure of the store at 834A Walt Whitman Road, or disclose the number of workers there. But she said of the employees, “Those choosing not to relocate are being offered severance packages.”
Announcing its nine month financial results on Nov. 14, Kohl’s said it ended the period with 1,158 stores in 49 states, 12 more than a year earlier.
The company reported sales of $12.9 billion in the first nine months of its fiscal year, ending Nov. 2, flat with a year earlier, but said net income fell by 9 percent, to $555 million.
The company website indicates that it has 13 stores on Long Island, including the Melville location.
