Lake Success firm donates TVs to McDonald's charity

A McDonald's Corp. charity home for the families of sick children has received a couple of home theater systems from the Lake Success computer tablet maker Coby Electronics, the charity said.

Coby, which makes a variety of consumer electronics, gave the two TV-DVD entertainment systems to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida.

“Ronald McDonald House Charities and all of our families are blessed and extremely grateful to have Coby Electronics as one of our partners,” Soraya Rivera-Moya, executive director of the Florida charity, said in a Wednesday news release.

“With their support, we can continue to keep families together and enhance their coping skills during their child’s hospitalization.”

Coby said it made the donations of its high-def sets to help "make the stay of families with children undergoing medical treatment a little easier . . .  to help families relax and share time together doing everyday activities."

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida maintains homes in Miami and in Fort Lauderdale.

When Coby moved from Maspeth to Lake Success in 2008, Newsday reported that it had about 70 workers at its new headquarters, and planned to expand. Its factories in China then made MP3 players, DVD players and digital photo frames for Circuit City, Sears and Kmart.
