Lakeland Industries Inc., a maker of protective garments and gear that received higher orders in the wake of the Ebola epidemic in Africa, is selling its corporate headquarters in Ronkonkoma, according to a filing Tuesday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Capitol Restoration Dry Cleaners Inc., a Smithtown-based garment restoration company, entered into a contract to buy the office unit at 701-7 Koehler Ave. for $517,500. According to the filing, the sale is expected to close at the end of April.
Lakeland is selling because its space exceeds its staffing needs. Seven employees currently work at the approximately 6,250-square-foot corporate office space, down from about 15 a few years ago, an outside spokesman for the company said.
The company is planning to rent a smaller office for its headquarters, and is looking for locations in or near Ronkonkoma.
The proceeds from the sale will likely go toward debt reduction, the spokesman said.
