Verizon, a leading provider of telephone, Internet and wireless service to Long Island, is on the list of top-ranked companies nationally in Latina magazine's annual rankings, the company said.
Verizon came in #4 of 50 companies honored on the list.
"This is the eighth consecutive year that the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion has been recognized by the publication," Verizon said in a recent news release.
Verizon has ranked among the top companies on the list for the last seven consecutive years, the company said.
Women and people of color make up nearly 60 percent of Verizon's workforce, and women hold 29 percent of the senior management positions, the company said.
“To compile the list of best companies, Latina Style surveyed more than 800 companies and evaluated them based on workplace issues that the publication's readers identified as most important.
Among the issues were: number of Latina executives, mentoring programs, Latina board members, educational opportunities, alternative work policies, dependent and child care support, employee benefits, women's issues, job retraining and affinity groups,” the company said.
Other area companies on the list were Macy's, Inc. (of Cincinnati, Ohio, and New York); Morgan Stanley, IBM, American Express, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., Colgate-Palmolive, Citi, MetLife, Inc., New York Life Insurance Company, National Grid, and TIAA-CREF.
