Legal help for kin of 9/11 victims

As a service to relatives of those who perished on Sept. 11, 2001, a Melville-based elder law and estate planning firm is offering free counseling and estate plans for surviving family members. That includes wills, powers of attorney, health care proxies and living wills.

Spouses, parents and adult children on Long Island and in New York City are eligible for this service, offered through the end of the year by Genser Dubow Genser & Cona.

It’s a way to both honor those who lost their lives and “underscore the importance of estate planning,” as “life is unpredictable,” Jennifer Cona, managing partner, above, said in a release.

The firm’s attorneys are to arrange private consultations, offer advice and draft the estate planning documents. Family members will need to provide a death certificate and proof of relationship, such as marriage certificate or birth certificate.
