Under the heading "naturally conservative merchandise," a trade industry website mentions a new line of lamps from Leviton, of Melville, that are designed to reduce closet fires.

The compact fluorescent ceiling lampholders “can also be used in open spaces," the Home Channel News website says.

"Suitable for all areas of the home, it automatically senses movement to turn lights on and is easy to install, with pigtail leads and knockout holes for multiple box configurations."

Leviton Manufacturing Co. Inc. sells the fixtures with a 13-watt lamp and lamp guard.

The Home Channel web site says it promoted Leviton's new lamp because it embodies "a conservative approach to energy and the environment." And it also saves money.
