The 30th Long Island Agricultural Forum will be held at Suffolk County Community College's Eastern Campus in Riverhead on Jan. 13 to 14.

Sandra Menasha, at left, a vegetable and potato specialist with the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Suffolk, will host the first afternoon’s series on potatoes and give a presentation titled, “Hot Potato: What Was Learned During The 2010 Growing Season.”

Here is the full schedule.

“This two-day conference will include topics focusing on the interests of Long Island's agricultural and horticultural industries,” the organization announced Monday. “All growers and dealers in these industries are invited and encouraged to attend.  The Forum provides the opportunity to keep up-to-date on the latest issues and technology, as well as to accrue important pesticide recertification credits.”

A legislative update and an address on current issues facing the agricultural industry -- such as the SC Farmland Preservation Program, WPS Inspections and Solid Waste Management. In addition to the potato session, there will also be specialized sessions for tree fruit, sustainable agriculture, floriculture, vegetables, viticulture, landscapers, nursery, business and estate planning, on-farm energy, good agricultural practices and ag labor.

Registration is now $30 per person, but that goes up to $45 after Jan. 4.
