LI economic planners' final public meeting

The Long Island Regional Economic Development Council on Thursday afternoon plans a final public meeting as it prepares its five-year plan for boosting the local economy.
The meeting is from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hofstra University, in the David S. Mack Student Center multipurpose room.
Members of the public can observe but no testimony is planned.
The council, appointed by the governor, has until Monday to submit its long-term economic strategy.
The strategy would lay out plans "for long-term, sustainable, regional economic growth including priority projects identified as those essential to achieving the vision for the future of the region."
The plan is to be finalized at today's meeting and then will compete statewide, against nine other regions, for a portion of $200 million in state aid. A further $800 million will be distributed in 2011-12.
The Long Island Regional Economic Development Council is co-chaired by Stuart Rabinowitz, president of Hofstra University, and Kevin Law, president of the Long Island Association.
