LI Farm Bureau to honor 2

x
The Long Island Farm Bureau holds its annual awards dinner this month and plans to give awards to two individuals for “leadership, service, commitment, achievement and character that has helped to shape and mold the future of the agricultural industry on Long Island,” according to the organization.
One award, the Amherst Davis Memorial Farmer Citizen of the Year, is being given to Mary Bess Phillips, left, who with her husband owns Alice's Fish Market in Greenport and who has served two terms on the bureau’s board of directors. She has long been associated with the Cornell Cooperative Extension.
The Long Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award is to be given to Kevin Cantwell, right, a Farm Family Insurance agent, who, the bureau says, “has been a long time supporter of the agricultural community.” He too has long been connected the Cornell Cooperative Extension, as well as to the Nassau Suffolk Landscape Gardeners Association and the bureau.
The awards gala takes place on Friday, July 30, at the Inn at East Wind in Wading River from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $80 in advance and $90 at the door. For more information, call the bureau at 631-727-3777.
