LI Home Depot to stay open on store-by-store basis

Home Depot intends to keep its Long Island stores open as long as possible, depending on the safety of its workers and customers, a spokeswoman said.

"We want to stay as long as we can, as long as its safe for customers and associates," said Jennifer King, a Home Depot spokeswoman.

The home improvement chain will decide to keep stores within reach of the storm open or to close them on a store-by-store basis,  King said.  Some stores also may decide to remain open 24 hours and others could decide to open early tomorrow depending on the situation, she said.

The company has an emergency command center and a well honed system to get products quickly to its stores, she said. For updates on store closures, customers can check on the Home Depot website.

Generators, batteries and water -- the usual storm preparation supplies -- have been in high demand.

"Being able to get product into stores is something we’ve done very well and efficiently because we’ve had to do it for so many storms," King said. "We're doing everything we can to get product in affected areas, and we're doing everything we can to get  take care of customers preparing for the storm, through the storm and post storm."
