LI law firm holds donation contest in centennial celebration

The law firm of Davidow, Davidow, Siegel & Stern started a hundred years ago in Patchogue. Two generations of lawyers later, the firm, now based in  Islandia,  is marking its centennial anniversary by giving back to the local community.

The law firm -- which specializes in elder law, estate planning and special needs law --  will donate $5,000 to each of three Long Island nonprofits. The pledge comes with a twist -- the public will be choosing which nonprofits receive the donation.

The firm says it will donate to nonprofits that focus on senior care, individuals with special needs, and seniors with specific health conditions.

The first round of voting will focus on nonprofits that aid senior citizens. With the aid of the Long Island Community Foundation, it has selected three organizations for a public vote on its website, www.davidowcenturyofgiving.org. The groups are  the Education Assistance Corp., the Jewish Association Serving the Aging, or the Family Service League.

This round of voting will last between four to six weeks, depending on voter participation, and will end sometime in early May. Two more contests will follow for each nonprofit category the firm has noted.
